Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of our most-asked questions and our best answers.
| Q. |
Do you have a children's program? |
| A. |
Yes, Broadway Christian Church has an active Children's Ministry. It involves children from 3 months through 6th grades. Check it out here or contact our Children's Pastor Dan Locke via email. |
| Q. |
What's available for kids in grades 7 through 12? |
| A. |
Again, we have an active Youth Ministries program at Broadway. Check it out here or contact our Youth Pastor Rick Finley by email. |
| Q. |
Can I be a part of the campaign even if I can't contribute personally? |
| A. |
Yes. There are a variety of teams where you can volunteer to serve. You can also contribute a “gift in kind.” This is where you give time or expertise to the campaign. During the information phase in January-February, you’ll hear some creative ways to be financially involved in the campaign that you might not have thought of. |
| Q. |
Can people make commitments after March? How? |
| A. |
Their will be Plus One gift envelopes in the pews and at the welcome center throughout the three year campaign. Plus One donations are taken at the same time in the service that we take regular tithes and offerings. |
| Q. |
Can't we have Saturday or Sunday night services to accommodate new people? |
| A. |
Adding a service involves more than just opening the church doors. We also recruit and train a large volunteer staff: ushers, greeters, nursery workers, children’s teachers, welcome center workers, hospitality folks, etc. Not to mention that no traditional service will thrive without a choir on the platform. Our volunteer choir currently sings at three services, which is about their limit. Our best plan is to add seating and parking to increase the capacity of our present services. |
| Q. |
How are people being informed about what projects are planned? |
| A. |
The information phase of the Plus One campaign begins in January. Every family will receive a packet of detailed information, and there will be several events with Q and A sessions. |
| Q. |
How are the dollars being spent? How much is being spent? |
| A. |
After consulting with church financial experts, analyzing our regular financial giving, and most importantly, praying for God’s wisdom, BCC leadership has set a goal of raising $2.7 million. This amount pays for the proposed remodel and purchases adjacent homes to be leveled for more parking. |
| Q. |
How were changes to the facilities decided? |
| A. |
A large number of church leaders, staff, and members of the construction community began meeting with architects and general contractors in 2007. They met with ministry team leaders and pastors and asked, “What kind of space would you need to grow two to three times your current size?” From these answers the construction team evaluated every square foot of our existing building and began plans for better using the space we have with modifications and additions. The plans were then sent to the Elders for prayer and direction. |
| Q. |
I want to be a part of the campaign, but no one has recruited me yet. |
| A. |
We want every person who calls BCC their spiritual home to participate in the Plus One campaign. That will make this successful! If you haven’t been recruited for one of our 15 teams and would like to participate, please let the office staff or Pastor John know and we’ll find a place for you! |
| Q. |
Is the tax write-off for 2008 for the total donation, or just what is received in 2008? |
| A. |
Your tax write-off is only for the amount that is received in any given year. |
| Q. |
Is there a “Plan B” for church attenders who miss the All-Church Event? How will they get the information they need? |
| A. |
Yes, this is already covered in our plan. We have a committee to see to it that every one will get the information. |
| Q. |
Is this construction project part of a future bigger project? |
| A. |
Only God knows the future of BCC. While this campaign and the growth produced from it may necessitate a future expansion, nothing imminent is planned at this time. |
| Q. |
The campaign will support remodeling to provide room for more people, but will more parking accompany this as well? |
| A. |
There will be additional parking. We've already added about 45 parking spaces at the rear of the property, and more parking will be added during the remodel. |
| Q. |
What am I giving my money to and when does the remodeling begin? |
| A. |
The campaign currently being conducted by BCC leadership with the assistance of RSI (Resource Services Inc.) is for the purpose of raising funds to expand our facilities and increase our outreach to the community. Sunday morning attendance in the recent years has strained our capacity for parking and Sanctuary seating. A BCC construction team with input from the various ministry departments has been planning facility expansion for several months. It is necessary to raise funds to move the project planning to reality. Current plans are to complete architectural and engineering drawings by early December 2008 and to begin construction in late March 2009. |
| Q. |
What happens if my contribution amount changes after it's initially made? |
| A. |
We can adjust your pledge and will work with you regarding your contribution to the Plus One account. |
| Q. |
What is the actual growth over the last 10 years? |
| A. |
BCC has seen incredible growth over the last few years. Here is a snapshot of our churches growth since its beginnings in 1979:
Worship service averages:
1979 - 44, 1989 - 386, 1995 - 709, 2003 - 940, 2008 - 1300+ |
| Q. |
Where will we hold church services during construction? |
| A. |
The BCC construction team, comprised of retired general contractors and others with construction experience, have held this question as a major consideration. Planning has given top priority to minimizing interruption of the church services and daily church operation during the construction process. It is the current plan and goal to continue normal worship services in both buildings, and if construction dictates, a temporary move for a few weeks. |
| Q. |
Who does BCC hope to reach with these changes? |
| A. |
In 2007 the Elders and Pastors evaluated and prayed for the vision of BCC. All involved felt strongly that God desires BCC to continue to be a body of believers that ministers effectively to all generations. To do that, we’ll continue to offer two distinct worship styles—contemporary and traditional. We want to be a church that constantly strives to reach every person for Christ within our ministry sphere. |
| Q. |
Why are we starting the project before we actually raise the money? |
| A. |
From the onset of this project the Eldership at Broadway decided the church will not incur long-term debt to pay for the Plus One changes. A short term loan has been secured to start the project and will be paid off in three years. |
| Q. |
Why do we need a campaign? |
| A. |
BCC is in a healthy financial position. Our regularly budgeted needs are met in Sunday offerings. But to accomplish this building project, an additional $2.7 million is required, and that needs to be an “over and above” amount. We don’t want anyone reducing their regular giving to contribute to the Plus One campaign. In the Bible, God encourages generosity in giving. Ten years ago, we built the Family Life Center—paid for in full—with a similar campaign. The FLC has been a godsend! The present campaign should be equally effective in helping us reach our community for Christ. Now more than ever, people need the Lord! The campaign motto is “Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice.” All of us, working together, can accomplish our goals. |
| Q. |
Will the remodel improve our shortage of seating and if so, how much? |
| A. |
We will be adding approximately 170 new seats to our existing 525 seats in the Sanctuary. This will allow for a 30% increase in attendance over our three traditional services. |
| Q. |
Will there be some renderings, besides the drawings, so we can better visualize the changes to our facilities? |
| A. |
Yes, video and sketch renderings will be available. |
| Q. |
Will this expansion benefit everyone at the church? |
| A. |
Yes, everyone will benefit. One year ago, every square foot of BCC was evaluated and plans were made to maximize our facilities. Many ministry leaders were asked, “What space would you need to double or triple the number of people your ministry serves?” The plans we have today took into account the present as well as future needs of both the members of BCC and its future members yet to be reached. |
| Q. |
How much is it going to cost and how will it be funded? |
| A. |
For the first year and start up, costs would be $150,000 - $200,000. This would cover staff, rental facilities, utilities, promotional material and mail-outs, etc. After the initial start-up, a weekly offering and a percentage of our missions budget will be the ongoing financial support.
The funding for the second campus will be a part of the Plus One campaign. |
| Q. |
When would we start services and who would be preaching? |
| A. |
The 2nd campus would start in about a 1 ½ to 2 years. Teaching and preaching would be shared by the campus pastor and current BCC pastoral staff. |
| Q. |
Why build a second campus and where? |
| A. |
There is no plan to “build” a 2nd campus. The idea is to rent an existing facility, such as a space in a strip mall. This would allow the satellite church in its early years to have a consistent place to meet on weekends as well as during the week. No meeting location for a second campus has been decided. The goal is to keep it within a 5-10 mile radius of our current campus. The hope is that people could attend or serve on either campus. |
| Q. |
Would we be sharing staff, facilities, or resources? |
| A. |
The answer is yes to all three. At this time we would only hire a campus pastor for the 2nd campus. This person would oversee and facilitate ministry and share teaching responsibilities. The current campus and 2nd campus would share staff, facilities, and resources to keep costs low and continue to give new opportunities for people to serve. |
